Net Big Stakes Poker- Gus Hansen

Gus Hansen enjoyed a wonderful year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only player to make it to the closing poker table in 3 of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may recall one of the largest pots in big stakes poker history up against Daniel Negreanu. Gus secured a large pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has made many televised poker appearances and is considered to be one of the greatest gamblers anywhere in the world. While competing in net poker, a different side of Hansen has appeared. He often plays in the 200/400 NL max buy in of $40, 000. Gus more often than not buys-in for the min of $16, 000 and gambles very weak. He waits patiently for a good hand and then goes all-in. I know Gus is an outstanding poker player but certainly not even close to the regular players at 200/400NL. Unless he is flat broke, he has little or no reason to sit at the game with the min buy-in.

Buying in for the minimum takes most of the skill out of deep stack poker. Hansen is assumed to be 1 of the greatest poker players in the world but he cannot buy-in for the full dollar value. I believe television can alter our perception of the real world every now and then. The greatest players in the world might be players you have never heard of before. Gus can be found gambling on internet poker on Full Tilt. He normally participates in high stakes Omaha and hold’em. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his skills in cash rounds?
