Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker competitor on the planet by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wished to pickup anything he possibly could about the game. Phil would tell his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the negative comments from others annihilate his dream of being one of the best poker competitors on the planet.
Phil began playing intently after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a common outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he destroyed quite a few of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to hard work and an immeasurable passion for the game of poker. He says that he is picking up skills every single day and is quite abashed about his success. He admits to making blunders in each session of poker and always strives to improve.
Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he favors winning money games on a regular basis.
