Internet High Stakes Poker- Gus Hansen
Gus Hansen experienced a marvelous year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only gambler to achieve closing table in 3 of the events. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might remember one of the largest pots in high stakes poker recorded history competing against Daniel Negreanu. He raked in a massive pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has made many televised poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the greatest players anywhere in the world. While betting on net poker, another side of Hansen has been seen. Gus often plays in the 200/400 NL maximum buy-in of $40, 000. Hansen usually buys-in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very weak. He waits patiently for a decent hand and then goes all in. I know Gus is an outstanding poker player but certainly not even close to the everyday players at 200/400NL. Unless he is penniless, he has little or no reason to play at the table with the minimum buy in.
Playing for the min takes almost all of the skill out of big stack poker. Hansen is accepted to be one of the best players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy in for the total dollar value. I think tv can skew our view of the real world at times. The best poker players in the world may be guys you have never heard about. Gus can be seen competing in web poker on Full Tilt. He generally competes in big stakes omaha hold’em and hold’em. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a competition player. Can he use his skills in cash rounds?
