Internet Big Stakes Poker- Gus Hansen
Gus Hansen had a marvelous year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only one to achieve last poker table in 3 of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might recall one of the largest pots in big stakes poker history against Daniel Negreanu. He won a huge pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has earned many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the strongest bettors in the world. While gambling on internet poker, another side of Hansen has emerged. Gus regularly plays in the 200/400 NL max buy-in of $40, 000. Hansen more often than not buys-in for the minimum of $16, 000 and gambles very poorly. He waits patiently for a good hand and then pushes all in. I believe Gus is an amazing poker player but certainly not even close to the everyday players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is penniless, he has little or no reason to sit at the game with the minimum buy in.
Buying in for the minimum takes most of the ability out of deep stack poker. Gus is presumed to be 1 of the greatest players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy in for the full dollar value. I believe television can alter our perception of the real world sometimes. The best players in the world could be players you have won’t have heard of before. Gus can be found playing net poker on Full Tilt. He normally competes in big stakes omaha/8 and Holdem. Gus has proven himself as a competition player. Can he use his skills in money rounds?
